RG Editions news:
These days, the editions seem to come at rather large intervals. I take it, in one way, as a good sign - life is full and fulfilled!! But nonethless, it is nice to keep things moving, and at long last I am pleased to annouce the First Ever Prined Edition (as far as I am aware), of a Lament by Schmelzer. Well, it's not actually called a Lament (but it surely is), and it's not certainly by Schmelzer (but if not, then by whom?), and anyway, it's a super piece, and I'm really pleased to be able to publish it at last. This next paragraph hasn't changed since last year!! The problem is that I have much to so, and the editions isn't quite so simple, as the source is really very bare indeed!! Never mind, it WILL happen. SOON (-ish) ...
Next in the pipeline is a set of six keyboard Fugues by JS Bach and WF Bach arranged for string trio with added Adagios, in part specially composed. The arrangement and composition was long attributed to Mozart - indeed, the work bears a Köchel number (K. 404a) - although this attribution cannot be positively confirmed. Current thinking is that they might be by Albrechtsberger. In any case, they are an indispensable part of any string trio's repertoire, but slightly shockingly, there is no "clean" edition currently available. The unique source is a manuscript copy, in score format, in the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. The copy is very clear, but absolutely not consistent, and very sparse on dynamics and articulation marking. True to RG Editions' principles, the forthcoming edition will provide a score presenting clearly and precisely what's in the source, and a set of edited parts (with, of course, editorial additions clearly marked and commented), to allow sensible performance. If you have specific questions about any aspect of the music, please feel free to contact me directly at rgeditions@gmail.com
All the best,
Richard Gwilt
